Safe Management and Operation of High Voltage Installations
Safe Management and Operation of High Voltage Installations
About the course
Significant electricity infrastructure developments are required to meet future high demand growth and decarbonisation. This rapid expansion of electricity generation, transmission, distribution infrastructure will require a considerable increase in the number and diversity of organisations and persons working with electricity, and in particular High Voltage (HV) electricity. Without a complimentary investment in training, there is a potential deficit in the competence of persons and companies who manage and operate HV installations.
This course provides Employers, Asset Owners, Facilities Managers, Safety Professionals, Consultants, Contractors, Engineers, Technicians, and Graduates involved to any extent in design, construction, commissioning, maintenance and operation of HV installations, with an understanding of High Voltage Best Practice principles. This includes Competence Assessment, Electrical Safety Rules and Safe System of Work, HV Hazard Identification Risk Assessment, HV equipment maintenance and O&M documentation. Thereby giving a working understanding of the reasonably practicable measures that should be taken to satisfy the duties and requirements imposed on developers, designers and contractors by national legislation, so as to conform to EN 61936-1:2021 and EN 50110-1:2023.
The course consists of 7 hours of online live sessions with the instructors. All training content is provided through your EngineeringTrainer account.

Learning Outcomes
After this course, you...• are familiar with the design standards EN 50110• 1:2023 and IEC 61936• 1:2021, and have seen that compliance to these design standards can demonstrate that all reasonably practicable safety measures have been taken,
• know the dangers associated with High Voltage equipment, the rules that should be followed and Safe System of Work,
• have seen the protocols for maintaining HV Equipment to ensure it is safe to operate and the required O&M documentation,
• understand the roles and organisation needed for the safe operation of HV equipment and the competence requirements of those in each function,
• have seen the best practice for planning HV works,
• understand the work flow needed to satisfy the duties and requirements imposed on developers, designers and contractors by national and international legislation.
Who should attend this course
Those involved in the safe operation and management of HV Installations, such as:• HV Installation Owners and Managers
• Developers, Independent Power Producers
• Consultants and Contractors involved in design, construction, commissioning, management, maintenance and operation of HV installations
• Engineers, Technicians, Project Managers, Safety Professionals, Graduates
