Workshop: Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS)
Why take this course?
This instructor-led Workshop takes you through Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) from the perspective of an engineer. You will be taken through the capture processes Post-Combustion, Pre-combustion and Oxyfuel so that you understand the main chemical processes and the required pressure vessels. Likewise the liquefaction steps needed for storing the captured carbon, and the conversion step to e-methanol will be explained. By explaining the technical challenges in CCUS, including the energy efficiency of the techniques you will gain the knowledge you need as an engineer when working or bidding for a CCUS project.
What you'll learn
After this live Workshop you,
• understand the gas paths in the Post-Combustion process through the absorber and stripper column
• know what an Air Separation Unit is
• understand the steps in the Pre-Combustion in the Oxyfuel capture processes
• have seen how the efficiency of a carbon capture process is calculated and varies between methods
• have become familiar with how carbon dioxide is stored and the applications for each type of storage
• understand the liquefaction process for carbon dioxide
• have seen how carbon dioxide is converted to chemical feedstocks such as E-methanol
About the course
In this instructor-led Workshop session you will be guided by our specialist in Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) Niels van Krunkelsven through the industry standard techniques for CCUS. Learn about CCUS from the perspective of an engineer, mixing theory with explanations of the steps for realising CCUS.
You will be taken through the steps in the Post-Combustion process including the process aspects of the absorber and stripper columns. The alternative Pre-combustion and Oxyfuel processes will be explained together with their efficiencies. The instructor will then show the features of the pressurized carbon dioxide storage tanks, together with the longer term geological, aquifer, and ocean storage methods. You will be taken through the processing and compression steps required to transport carbon dioxide efficiently and economically, with a focus on the liquefaction process. Finally, the session explores industrial applications that utilize captured carbon, including its conversion into valuable chemical feedstocks like e-methanol.
Your instructor will encourage an open discussion, answering your questions throughout the session, and taking you through process flow diagrams and quizzes to ensure you leave with knowledge that you can apply going forward.
