About the course

The 2025 release of ASME Section VIII includes significant updates as part of the ongoing “common rules” initiative, aimed at improving consistency and usability across Divisions 1 and 2. This live workshop, led by Steven Roberts—Chair of the ASME BPV Technical Oversight Management Committee and former Chair of the Section VIII Standards Committee—offers a clear, expert-led walkthrough of these changes and their practical implications.

Participants will gain a structured understanding of what has changed in the 2025 edition and how these updates affect their use of the ASME VIII. The workshop explains how to navigate between Division 1 and Division 2, when analytical methods from Division 2 are referenced from Division 1. As an example it shows the revised workflow for Appendix 2 flange design, along with key updates in materials, fabrication practices, and the introduction of the new Subsection D.

Additionally focus is given to changes in pressure testing requirements, enhancements in overpressure protection, and the updates of appendices 10, 46, and 47. The session also explains the modifications in Part 5 (FEA/Design by Analysis) of Division 2.
