Workshop: Selection of a Centrifugal Pump
Why take this course?
Let this instructor-led Workshop take you through the steps in selecting the most suitable centrifugal pump for your application. The session will explain all the key parameters, such as Net Postive Suction Head and Specific Speed together with the performance charts with capacity and efficiency. Our experienced instructor will take you through the material, answering questions and concluding with an example.
What you'll learn
After this live Workshop you,
• are able to calculate familiar with terms such as Pump Total Head, Net Positive Suction Head, Liquid Brake Horsepower
• are able to select a centrifugal pump so that operates close to the best efficiency point
• are familiar with typical piping layouts around a Centrifugal Pump, and what routings to avoid.
• have seen the concept of specific speed
• know how to read centrifugal pump maps based on efficiency, BHP and head
• have seen the typical mechanical sealing (one or two pairs) configurations
• have seen a worked example of how to select a centrifugal pump
About the course
Selecting an appropriate centrifugal pump for your systems, means designing for the best efficiency at the standard operating condition, but also allowing sufficient performance range for other operating conditions.
This instructor-led masterclass with our rotating machinery expert Dimitri Antoniadis, starts by defining the parameters that you need to know, and their role in the pump selection. Performance charts of pumps are explained, whilst the calcuations needed to show that your centrifugal pump is sized for the correct part of the performance map are explained. Practical recommendations for the piping layout on the suction and discharge sides of the pump are shown and the session closes with a worked example.
Your instructor will encourage an open discussion, answering your questions throughout the session, and taking you through a worked example to ensure you leave with knowledge that you can apply going forward.
