EN 13480 Minimum Wall Thickness
-
EN 13480 defines the minimum thickness a pipe should have to be compliant with EU regulations. The following must be satisfied:
1. Selected wall thickness shall be sufficient to limit developed stresses due to external or internal pressure to the maximum value defined for the design conditions of the system.
2. Manufacturing tolerance as a function of the specific manufacturing process is usually expressed as a percentage of the nominal wall thickness.
3. Corrosion and erosion allowance, internal, external or both, shall be defined to ensure that the wall does not fall below the minimum in the design life of the system. Where applicable, suitable corrosion protection shall be provided.
4. Minimum wall thickness requirements shall be applied to straight pipes as well as bends. Where bends are formed from straight pipes, changes in wall thickness at the extrados and intrados of the bend shall be calculated.
5. Where piping components are manufactured by welding processes, other than circumferential joints, a suitable joint coefficient as defined by the code shall be applied.
